CHAMPLAIN — An accident involving a tractor-trailer and a car on Route 11 claimed the life of a 94-year-old Rouses Point man Monday morning, police said.
The accident between a 2016 Chrysler, driven by Albert C. Gokey, 94, and a 2015 Volvo tractor-trailer truck took place just before 7 a.m. when the Gokey vehicle apparently veered across the center line for an unknown reason and hit the tractor-trailer, according to a State Police press release.
Gokey was pronounced dead at the accident by Essex County Coroner Francis Whitelaw, and his body was removed to the University of Vermont Healthcare Network, Champlain Valley Physician’s Hospital in Plattsburgh for an autopsy Tuesday.
Ganesharajah Ratnasabapathy, 53, of Quebec, the driver of the truck, was uninjured, police said.
The road was closed from its intersection with Route 9 to the intersection with Elm Street for about five hours, according to a statement from Clinton County Emergency Services.
It was reopened shortly after noon.
Along with State Police, the Champlain and Rouses Point volunteer fire departments and Champlain EMS responded to the accident, dispatch said.
The crash remains under investigation.
