Angela M. Stone’s family and friends are mourning the West Chazy woman’s death following a car accident Thursday night.

State Police said the 31-year-old was killed instantly when her 2008 Kia crashed into a boulder and large tree after it veered off Ratta Road.

Authorities believe Stone was driving south at about 11:30 p.m. when, for an unknown reason, her car went off the road, slammed into the boulder and overturned.

Stone was the only person in the vehicle and died just miles from her Stratton Hill Road home.

Lt. Charles Potthast said the investigation into the crash is continuing but that initial reports indicated speed was a factor.

News of Stone’s death spread quickly Friday, devastating many who knew her.

“I just can’t believe she’s gone,” said Wendy Farrell, Stone’s high-school best friend.

Audibly saddened by Stone’s death, Farrell fondly recalled her friend’s outgoing and loving personality and the years they spent together at Chazy Rural School, where Stone, a former athlete, graduated in 1997.

“She was always such a caring person,” Farrell said.

“She would listen to anyone and be there for everyone. She was the type of person who could just walk into a room and get along with everyone.”

Stone is survived by her parents, Steve and Melinda; a brother; and sister.

Her calling hours will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Heald Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.
