NORTH ELBA — A domestic incident involving alleged car vandalism and assault led to felony charges here July 16, State Police say.

Troopers responded to a report of the incident around 5:30 a.m. on Dandelion way, a press release said.

An investigation determined that Wilmington man Kyle L. Wilkerson, 20, entered the residence without permission, allegedly breaking a window and keying the vehicle in the driveway on the way into the dwelling, police said.

Once inside, the release said, he engaged in an altercation with two victims, allegedly striking and choking the female victim and striking the male victim with an unknown blunt object. He also allegedly menaced the pair with a shovel.

Both victims suffered lacerations and contusions, the release added, and had to be treated at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.

Wilkerson fled the scene but was later apprehended without incident and was charged with first-degree burglary, second-degree assault, aggravated criminal contempt and third-degree criminal mischief, all felonies, and third-degree assault and second-degree menacing, both misdemeanors.

Further investigation found that he had allegedly also gotten in a separate altercation with the female victim the night before in the Village of Lake Placid.

That incident had violated an order of protection protecting the female victim, the release said, with Wilkerson choking the victim, striking her in the face and breaking her cell phone.

This alleged incident earned him additional charges of aggravated criminal contempt, a felony, and third-degree assault, criminal obstruction of breathing and fourth-degree criminal mischief, all misdemeanors.

Wilkerson was arraigned in Lake Placid Village Court and sent to Essex County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond.
