PLATTSBURGH — The Transportation Security Administration, or TSA, is looking for workforce and plans to host a one-day recruitment event later this month.
TSA Office of Public Affairs Spokesperson Lisa Farbstein said the need didn't indicate increased traffic, but was simply due to some vacant positions in the region.
"We have some openings at the two airports in the area — Plattsburgh International Airport and Adirondack Regional Airport," Farbstein told The Press-Republican.
"So, we're trying to have a, what I would call an, 'express-hiring event,'" she said.
"That way, anyone who may be interested can talk to TSA officials and find out more about what the job of a TSA officer entails."
Farbstein said, though a new process in the North Country, the TSA often hosts events such as this across the nation.
The TSA will be teaming up with the North Country Workforce Development Board to host its recruitment day at that public-private entity's OneWorkSource Career Center in the City of Plattsburgh.
The North Country Workforce Development Board considers itself the line joining education with workforce through its Career Centers, including the one location in Plattsburgh, as well as those in Malone, Elizabethtown and Indian Lake.
"Businesses look to the North Country Workforce Development Board for skilled employees, expertise in job training and supportive services," its website says.
"Job seekers, both adult and youth, receive referrals and placement in quality jobs, education, and training programs."
FOOT IN THE DOOR
At the recruitment day, Farbstein said TSA officials will be present to discuss the duties of a TSA officer, explain the application process and give an overview of employee benefits.
"It's a really good opportunity for people to get a foot into the door of working for the federal government," Farbstein said. "It's also a good opportunity for individuals who may be looking for a second career or part-time job.
"We often have part-time openings, as well."
The session is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 30 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the OneWorkSource Center at 194 U.S. Oval in the City of Plattsburgh."
