SANTA CLARA — With an Adirondack Park Agency permit in hand, this town is poised to build a new community center.
The building has been in planning for the past three years.
It will house meeting rooms, garage space and room for the Town Court.
At a recent Town Council meeting, officials said the $1,710,000 bond anticipation note for the project was signed with Champlain National Bank.
Supervisor Mickey Webb and Town Clerk Laurie McGill signed contracts for the 30-year note in March.
The interest rate is 1.25 percent, the meeting minutes said.
"The town will set up a new checking account for this money and pay all bills associated with the community center out of this account."
The community center will encompass 5,280 square feet next to the Town Hall and the highway garage.
It is to be built 37 feet in height, and, according to APA documents, “will contain office space, a records room, a kitchen, bathrooms, a community/court room and a two-bay garage.
"A new onsite wastewater treatment system, well, driveway and parking area will be installed, constructed as part of the project.
"Total land disturbance for the project is approximately 1.7 acres.”
Santa Clara will close an existing town garage in the hamlet to redistribute costs associated with the new building.
The the Town Council is looking to set a date for a ground-breaking ceremony.
Construction contracts, awarded at a previous meeting, went to the lowest bidders in each category:
General contractor: Friend Commercial Contracting of North Bangor, $1,156,200.
