PLATTSBURGH -- The 2007 road-construction season is getting under way.

Motorists should be alert to work-zone speed limits. Fines are doubled for speeding in work zones.

Maintenance crews are doing routine maintenance operations, which include tree work, pothole patching, sign work, short-term bridge repairs, bridge washing, sweeping, ditching and crack sealing. Use caution in work zones.

Here's a look at some of the major road work being done:

Clinton County

Angelville Road Bridge, Mooers: Bids have been received and the county is in the process of awarding a construction contract to replace the existing structure. Work is anticipated to begin in mid to late June. The road will be closed and a detour route will be signed and maintained by the contractor.

Angelville Road, Mooers: Paving will be under way on the entire length of the road. Minimal delays.

Irish Settlement/Bordeau roads, Plattsburgh: Initial paving work is complete. Final pavement resurfacing work will begin June 4. Some delays are expected. Alternate routes should be utilized whenever possible.

Hallock Hill Road, AuSable: Initial paving work is under way. Minor delays. Final pavement resurfacing will begin about June 11. Motorists should anticipate some delays and utilize alternate routes when necessary.

Plank Road, Ellenburg: Initial paving work will be under way from Route 190 to Smith Road. Minor delays.



City of Plattsburgh

Weed Street: Weed Street is being reconstructed from Margaret Street to Boynton Avenue. Businesses on Weed Street are open and can be accessed. However, through traffic is being discouraged.

Bridge Street: Bridge Street from City Hall Place to Margaret Street is being reconstructed. This portion of the street is closed. Flaggers are directing traffic. Avoid area if possible. Expected completion is end of June.

Cornelia and Margaret streets: This intersection is being reconstructed. Expect delays. Avoid area when possible. Expected completion: end of June.

Essex County

Soper Road, Chesterfield: Road is closed because of a collapsed culvert near the intersection with Mace Chasm Road. The road will remain closed until a bridge is built to replace the culvert.

Sunset Drive, Willsboro: Road closed due to road collapse. This will continue until repairs are made.

Stowersville Road, Lewis: Lane shift near the Wardner Bridge due to slope failure. This will be in effect until repairs can be made.

Route 86, Lake Placid: The resurfacing project extends from the Route 73 intersection to Old Military Road. There is an eastbound detour taking motorists onto Old Military and West Valley roads. Westbound motorists use Route 86 as normal.

Interstate 87, Schroon: Long-term single-lane closures in each direction at locations on the Northway between exits 26 and 28 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays for resurfacing.

Route 9 bridge, Keeseville: One-way, alternating traffic conditions are in place on the bridge over the Ausable River controlled by temporary signals to allow for the replacement project. These are scheduled to be in place until this fall.

Route 9, Elizabethtown: Resurfacing is taking place in the hamlet. Expect delays.

Route 9, Schroon/North Hudson: Under drainage and repaving is being done. Some delays.

Route 22, Essex: Ditching is being done. Minor delays.

Franklin County

Moody Road Bridge, Bellmont: Bridge is under construction. Detour is in place.

County Route 35, Chateaugay: Two miles of this road are under construction. Some delays.

Brandon: Paving is being done. Some delays.

Route 30, Tupper Lake: This reconstruction project begins in the Village of Tupper Lake and extends southerly for a distance of about 2.8 miles. Motorists may encounter alternating one-way traffic controlled by signs and flaggers. Completion is August 2008.
