PLATTSBURGH — Aerospace and transportation leaders of Quebec and New York will gather here for a first-ever event aimed at education and unification.
The Quebec-New York Aerospace/Transportation Equipment Rendezvous is slated for 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday, May 31,at the North Country Chamber of Commerce.
Hosted by the North American Center of Excellence for Transportation Equipment, which supports and connects 50 such businesses in Northern New York, the luncheon and accompanying sessions will serve to further "the aim of a synergistic bi-national cluster," a chamber press release said.
The event will feature structured B2B, or business-to-business opportunities, as well as orientations on "key sectoral organizations and their services," the release said.
Among the sessions will be "The Growing Impact of Additive Manufacturing," "The Greening of Transportation," "Exporting Support" and "Making Sure the U.S.-Canada Works For You."
U.S. Congresswoman Elise Stefanik (R-Schuylerville) and Quebec Minister for International Relations Nadine Girault will both keynote the event.
Participants will have the opportunity to tour Norsk Titanium, as well.
WELL-PAYING JOBS
Formed in 2015, NAmTrans is a division of the Chamber of Commerce directed by Danielle Johnson; it has a cooperation agreement with the aerospace cluster organization in Quebec, Aero Montreal.
Chamber Vice President for Economic Development Susan Matton said earlier this year that NAmTrans welcomed nearly 200 jobs in 2018 alone.
And, Johnson added then, 2017 data logged occupations within the cluster at an average annual wage of $58,296 — about 23 percent higher than the total average wage in Clinton County.
NAmTrans launched a digital-media campaign in 2018 funded by a United States Department of Agriculture Rural Business Development program grant to highlight the benefits of North Country manufacturing careers.
MANY PARTNERS
Other partners of the aerospace/transportation rendezvous include Propulsion Quebec, Aerospace Association of Upstate New York, the Center for Economic Growth, CITEC Business Solutions, the Quebec Ground Transportation Cluster and the Delegation General of Quebec.
Key funding for the event came from State Sen. Betty Little (R-Queensbury) and Assemblyman Billy Jones, the release said, "and from sponsors Bombardier, TD Bank, the Development Corporation and CDC Real Estate/Immigration."
The cost to participate is $150, with registration available at: www.northcountrychamber.com.
