FRANKLIN — Three people were seriously injured in a two-car motor vehicle accident here Aug. 30, State Police say.

State Police responded to a report of an accident on Route 3 just after 7 a.m., State Police Troop B Public Information Officer Trooper Jennifer Fleishman said.

An investigation revealed that Mindy M. Ackey, 28, of Plattsburgh, was driving west in a Subaru Forrester when the vehicle collided with a 2012 Suzuki SX4 being driven by Kerry E. Kipping, 41, of Saranac Lake.

Both vehicles had severe front-end damage, Fleishman said, and both drivers and Kipping’s passenger, Bloomingdale woman Elizabeth M. Goff, 46, were injured.

They were all transported to the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake for treatment of injuries.

Kipping was treated for hip and internal injuries, Ackey was treated for a broken leg and internal injuries, and Goff was treated for a broken arm and an abdominal injury.

Goff and Ackey were both later transported to the Albany Medical Center, Fleishman said.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.


PLATTSBURGH — A Plattsburgh man was arrested here Aug. 8 after he allegedly was found pulling a rolling carry-on filled with marijuana, Plattsburgh City Police say.

After obtaining information from a related investigation, police Chief Levi Ritter said, officers observed suspicious activity that appeared to be a transaction on Montcalm Avenue.

A city officer approached a man, later identified as Claude Minor, 26, who was pulling a rolling luggage bag behind him.

As the officer approached, Ritter said, he smelled marijuana and allegedly saw a ziploc bag containing marijuana sticking out of an open zipper on the bag.

Minor was charged with first-degree criminal possession of marijuana, a felony, after the officer allegedly found 17.2 pounds of marijuana in the bag.

He was arraigned in Plattsburgh City Court on Aug. 9 and remanded to Clinton County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bail which he posted on Aug. 15.

He is due to reappear in court Sept. 5.

PLATTSBURGH — A man was arrested on six felony drug counts here Aug. 6.

City Police had been given information as to the person’s whereabouts, Ritter said, before they arrested Jahfari J. Joseph, 34, following a traffic stop on Interstate 87.

Joseph was charged with three counts each of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, all felonies.

He was arraigned in Clinton County Court on Aug. 7 before being remanded to Clinton County Jail in lieu of $2,550 bail.
