TICONDEROGA — Multiple fire departments responded to a UTV fire at 1444 NYS Route 9N here Thursday night.
Essex County Dispatch put out a call for the fire in a utility task vehicle at the property of William Polihronakis around 8:30 p.m. with Ticonderoga Volunteer Fire Department responding.
The UTV was used by the logging company Polihronakis operates.
Mutual aid was requested from departments from Chilson and Putnam in Washington County.
A radio report by a firefighter requested assistance with creating a hole in the roof of the garage to vent the structure of smoke.
Essex County officials said the garage itself had only light damage. The UTV was heavily damaged.
WILLSBORO — The Willsboro Fire Department and the Essex County Office of Emergency Services were on the site of a leaking propane storage tank Friday morning.
The large tank was at the Imerys site at the former NYCO Minerals plant.
Imerys now owns NYCO.
The plant at 803 Mountain View Dr. works with a mineral called wollastonite, used in paints.
Essex County Emergency Services Director Donald Jaquish said they’re keeping the leak under control.
“The propane reload valve was venting due to high temps,” he said.
Firefighters were cooling the tank by spraying water on it.
