PLATTSBURGH — The Town of Plattsburgh is partnering with local families through the new Hometown Heroes Banner Program to recognize active duty service members and veterans.

Each sponsored banner will include an individual’s photo, name, branch of service and (if applicable) Purple Heart Recipient recognition.

The banners will be displayed on light poles from Memorial Day until Veterans Day.

“Our history runs deep, serving as theaters for battles in both the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812," Town Supervisor Michael Cashman said.

"From the birth of the nation to the most recent engagements, local men and women have answered the call to serve our country. We have a responsibility as a community to honor these men and women."

LIVING TRIBUTE

Recently, the Town of Plattsburgh became a designated Purple Heart Town, the supervisor said.

"Now with the Hometown Heroes program it will allow us to honor Purple Heart recipients and all who are actively serving or have served our country.”

“This has been a successful program in neighboring communities, and we are honored to bring this living tribute to our town," said Michele Buckminster, who is managing the program.

The banners will be displayed on Smithfield and Plaza Boulevards and the Route 3 corridor from Hammond Lane to where routes 3 and 22B split.

Find applications at www.townofplattsburgh.com or at the Town Hall, 151 Banker Road. They are also available at American Legion posts 1619 and 20 and the Clinton County Veterans Services Office.

Once completed, applications can be dropped off to Town Hall from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday or mailed in.

They may be submitted at any time, however, the deadline is March 25, 2019, to have a banner displayed for the 2019 season.

Space is limited, and after all available spaces are filled, a wait list will be maintained on a first-come first-served basis, the town said.
