Road Closure in Westport 

WESTPORT — Route 9N in the town of Westport in Essex County will be closed at the CP Rail bridge near the Essex County Fairgrounds between Ledge Hill Road and Sisco Street starting Monday, Oct. 7 at 3 p.m.

The closure will allow for work on the rail bridge. The road is expected to reopen by Friday, Oct. 11 at 3 p.m.

A signed detour will be posted for motorists to use Route 22 and Sam Spear Road (County Route 60).

Route 9 Closed 

SCHROON LAKE — Motorists are advised that Route 9 in Schroon Lake in Essex County, will be reduced to a single alternating lane controlled by flaggers between Route 74 and Jordan Street weekdays between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. through October for pavement work.

The work schedule is weather dependent.

Motorists are urged to slow down and safely move over when approaching roadside vehicles displaying red, white, blue, amber or green lights, including maintenance and construction vehicles in work zones.


Saranac School Board to meet

SARANAC — The Saranac Central School District Board of Education will meet at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 7 at the District Office in Dannemora.

Champlain Budget Meeting

BEEKMANTOWN — The Board of Education of the Beekmantown Central School District will meet on Tuesday, October 8, 2019 at 6:15 p.m. in the MS/HS Library. Saranac Pre-kindergarten Registration

SARANAC — Registration for the Saranac Central School District’s 2020-2021 Pre-K Program is now open.

Children eligible to attend this program must be 4 years old or turning 4 years old by Dec. 1 of the year of their attendance. Saranac’s Prekindergarten is a free, full-day program, made up of five inclusive classrooms, located at three different sites: Adirondack Helping Hands in Cadyville, Morrisonville Elementary and Saranac Elementary schools.

Free bus transportation is provided to all of the program sites. However, children must be four years old to ride the district buses.

Families of children who start the program at the age of three years must provide transportation to and from school until one day after the child’s fourth birthday.

Saranac’s program can accommodate up to 70 students. If necessary, a lottery process will be held in February 2020 to select students for participation in the program.

Completed applications including all supportive documents must be submitted in person to either Morrisonville Elementary School or Saranac Elementary School on or before Monday, Feb. 3, 2020 to ensure that your child’s name is included in the lottery process.

Clinton County Legislature to meet

PLATTSBURGH — The Clinton County Legislature will meet Wednesday, Oct. 9 in the Legislative Chambers on the second floor of the Government Center, 137 Margaret Street in Plattsburgh at 7 p.m.

Among the resolutions to be acted upon are: “Awarding Request for Proposals for Wide Area Network and Dedicated Internet Access,” “Authorizing Federal Government-Sponsored Bulletproof Vest Partnership Program Grant Acceptance” and “Authorizing High-Visibility Road Checks/Saturation Patrols/DRE Call Out During Impaired Driving Crackdowns Grant Acceptance.”

Immunization Clinic

MALONE — Franklin County Public Health Services will be holding an immunization clinic on Wednesday, Oct. 9 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Courthouse Second Floor Conference Room, 355 W. Main St.

A parent with current immunization records must accompany all children.

Vaccines will also be available for children and young adults.

Village Offices Closed

CHAMPLAIN — The Village of Champlain offices will be closed on Monday, Oct. 14 in recognition of Columbus Day.

Regular office hours will resume on Tuesday, Oct. 15.

Ellenburg to hold budget meeting

ELLENBURG — The Town of Ellenburg will hold a special meeting on Oct. 15 at 6 p.m. to discuss the town budget for 2020. The regular board meeting will follow the special meeting.

Meetings will be held at the town hall, 13 Brandy Brook Rd., Ellenburg Center.

AVCS Bus Vote

CLINTONVILLE — The AuSable Valley Central School special bus vote will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 16 at the Clintonville, Middle School-High School Cafeteria.

Voting hours will be from noon to 9 p.m.


Village Public Hearing

CHAMPLAIN — The Village of Champlain Planning Board will hold a public hearing on Wednesday, Oct. 16 at 5:15 p.m. at the Village Office, 11104 Route 9, Champlain, to hear from those for or against a sub-division request submitted by Gene and Patricia Gladd for the property located at 9 Filion Lane.

BOCES Board to meet

MALONE — The regular meeting of the Board of Cooperative Educational Services of the Sole Supervisory District of Franklin, Essex and Hamilton Counties is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 16 at the North Franklin Educational Center, 23 Husky Lane, Malone.

Court Canceled 

CHURUBUSCO — The Town of Clinton Justice Court will not hold court on Nov. 5 due to Election Day.

The court will resume on Nov. 19 at 4 p.m.
