Trinity Square Closed

PLATTSBURGH — Due to the Battle of Plattsburgh Commemoration, Trinity Square will be closed to all traffic from 9 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 13 until 5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 15.

Church Rummage Sale

CHAMPLAIN — A church rummage sale fundraiser will be held today from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Christ & St. John’s Episcopal Church, 18 Butternut St. in Champlain.

All proceeds to benefit Operation Christmas Child, a ministry through Samaritan’s Purse that packs shoebox gifts of school supplies, personal hygiene items and a toy, that are designed to be a tangible expression of God’s love and to give hope to a child in need.

Grant Awarded

PLATTSBURGH — A $38,000 United States Department of Agriculture grant for technical assistance, in the form of leadership and supervisory training, to local small business owners across multiple counties by the North Country Chamber of Commerce in Plattsburgh, has been awarded.

The funding will support training for businesses in Clinton, Essex, Franklin, and St. Lawrence counties, allowing them to expand and save an estimated 26 jobs over the next 3 years, according to a news release from Congresswoman Elise Stefanik (R-Schuylerville).

“I am excited to announce the USDA has awarded this funding to support the development of local North Country businesses,” Stefanik said.

“Ensuring that local businesses receive support is key for many rural communities in our region, and I will continue to advocate on behalf of the local business community in Congress.”

City School Zumba

Plattsburgh City School District’s Community Education Program

PLATTSBURGH — The Plattsburgh City School District is continuing its Community Education Program with Zumba classes.

Classes will be held on Sept. 16, 23 and 30; Oct. 7, 21 and 28 and Nov. 4 in the Stafford Middle School Cafeteria from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The fee for city residents is $40; senior citizen Gold Card members, $30; non-residents, $45.

The walk-in rate is $6 per night.

The instructor for the class will be Michelle Walpole.

Moriah School Board to meet

MORIAH — The Moriah Central School Board of Education will hold a regular meeting on Sept. 17 at 6 p.m. in the high school library.

Agenda items include financial reports, employee hiring and update of policies.

Earth Day 2020 Planning

PLATTSBURGH — The public is invited to participate in creating and planning the Plattsburgh Earth Day Event in 2020.

This will be the 50th anniversary of the first Earth Day.

The first organizational meeting will be Monday, Sept. 16 at 7 p.m. in Room 3 at Plattsburgh United Methodist Church, 127 Beekman Street (formerly the Family Room).

AVCS School Board to meet

CLINTONVILLE — The Au Sable Valley Central School Board of Education meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 18 at the Middle School-High Sschool Auditorium in Clintonville.

It is anticipated that the meeting will begin with presentations followed by an executive session.

The regular session is expected to immediately follow the executive session.

The board will consider special education recommendations and personnel Issues.

The meeting is open to the public.

TICONDEROGA — The Town of Ticonderoga Public Works Committee will meet at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 24 in the basement meeting room of the Community Building.
