City continues to flush fire hydrants

PLATTSBURGH — The City of Plattsburgh Fire Hydrant Water Flow Program is under way.

The Fire Department will be inspecting each fire hydrant in the city and allowing the water to flow for three to five minutes.

During these times, water in the system will be stirred up and may be cloudy or rust colored coming out of the faucet, and residents should avoid taking a bath or washing clothes.

Hydrants will be flushed 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Today's streets are: Steltzer, Goff, South Catherine, Pine, Smith, Standish, George, White, Broad, Oak, Brinkerhoff, Clinton, Margaret, Court, Durkee, Bridge, City Hall Place and Dock Street.

WPTZ anchor leaving for Minneapolis

BURLINGTON — WPTZ's Gus Rosendale is leaving NewsChannel 5 to join the anchor team at KSTP-TV, the ABC affiliate in Minneapolis-St. Paul.

Rosendale, who co-anchors the 5, 6 and 11 p.m. newscasts on WPTZ with Stephanie Gorin, will leave at the end of November. He begins his new duties as an evening news anchor in the Twin Cities in mid-December.

Rosendale has worked at WPTZ twice. He began his on-air television career at the station in 2000, moved to sister station WTAE-TV in Pittsburgh in 2005 and returned to NewsChannel 5 in January 2008.

WPTZ President & General Manager Paul Sands said they will search for a new anchor "who will, as Gus has, deliver news to our region with strong credibility, integrity and personality."

Westport Council sets budget sessions

WESTPORT — The Westport Town Council will hold a series of meetings to work on the 2011 budget.

The meetings will be held: this Thursday at 7 p.m.; Oct. 12 at 5:30 p.m., with the regular board meeting at 7 p.m.; and Oct. 18 at 3 p.m.

The meetings are open to the public.

City-street resurfacing starts Friday

PLATTSBURGH — Several street resurfacing projects are scheduled to start in the City of Plattsburgh on Friday.

City Engineer Kevin Farrington said Margaret Street from Court Street to Brinkerhoff Street will be milled, resurfaced and striped Friday beginning at 5 a.m. He is asking that no cars be parked in that area beginning Thursday night.

When that is completed, Waterhouse Street, Division Street and Olivetti Place will also be resurfaced. That work will probably extend into the following week.

Willsboro School seeking nominations

WILLSBORO — Willsboro School is accepting nominations for its 2011 Wall of Distinction.

The award is designed to recognize individuals who have made a significant impact to the school or achieved outstanding contributions to society as a former student at Willsboro Central.
