Recovery aid available to cultural groups

To assist in the recovery efforts for cultural groups that lost assets in Tropical Storm Irene, the New York Council for the Humanities has secured emergency funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities.

This special funding is being used by the council to offer small, effective and fast grants to tax-exempt cultural groups whose buildings or collections were damaged or destroyed by floods. Grants of up to $1,000 are available to defray salary and overtime costs for staff members working on storm-related cleanup.

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until Dec. 31. Notification will be within four weeks of the receipt of an application. More information and an application form are available at nyhumanities.org/grants/recovery.php.
