Bacteria Session on tap

ESSEX — The Lake Champlain Committee will host a Cyanobacteria Information Session today at 5 p.m. at the Essex Town Hall.

A cyanobacteria bloom occurred along the Essex shoreline earlier this week.

Blooms can show up anywhere so everyone who uses waterways should learn how to recognize and avoid them, according to a news release.

Lake Champlain Committee staff will provide an overview of cyanobacteria and why it’s a concern.

They will cover what cyanobacteria are, the drivers that trigger blooms and provide tips on how to keep people and pets safe.

A representative from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation will also be on hand to discuss the state’s harmful algal bloom program.

The meeting is open to the public.

RSVPs to lcc@lakechamplaincommittee.org are appreciated.
