Westport transfer station reduces hours
WESTPORT — Due to a decrease in usage and in an effort to save money, Westport Town Council has decided to close the town trash transfer station one day a week during the winter months.
In March, the transfer station will be closed on Wednesdays.
Starting in April through September, the transfer station will be open on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
Then October through April, it will again be closed on Wednesdays.
Jay to publish business brochure
JAY — The Town of Jay Supervisor’s Office will be publishing a new business brochure for the community.
Listings will be free of charge to Town of Jay business owners who wish to have their information included in the upcoming publication.
People can submit their business cards in any of these ways:
• Via mail: Town of Jay, P.O. Box 730, AuSable Forks, NY 12912.
• In person to the Supervisor’s Office, 11 School Lane in AuSable Forks during regular business hours of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The anticipated publication will be sometime in April.
Peru Central Board sets up Budget Advisory group
PERU — The Peru Central School Board has once again organized a Budget Advisory Committee charged with “inform and promote school-community discussion concurrent with the School District budget-development process,” a press release said.
The committee, the eighth over the past eight years, meets three or four times to become familiar with revenues, expenditures, components of a balanced budget and the particular challenges that face the district.
“Traditionally, the (committee) has formulated recommendations for the board consideration,” the release said.
It will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28; Thursday, Feb. 13; Thursday, Feb. 27; and Tuesday, March 18, then make its recommendations to the School Board on Tuesday, March 25, during a budget development workshop.

Scottish scholarship applications accepted
LAKE PLACID — The Scottish St. Andrew’s Society of the Adirondacks offers scholarships to pipers, drummers and highland dancers.
The scholarships may be used for lessons, band camp or competition fees. Awards are also available for research in Scottish history, culture and traditional crafts.
Applicants should have a connection to the Adirondacks by living, working or attending school there.
