Saranac Lake streets to close for road work

SARANAC LAKE — The Saranac Lake Department of Public Works will be milling asphalt on Riverside Drive, Olive Street (Broadway to Williams Street) and Fawn Street from 6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, and Wednesday, Aug. 14.

There will be no parking during daytime hours on those streets, which will be closed to all through traffic during milling and cleanup operations and will be reopened once the work is complete. 

Starting Thursday, Aug. 15, and continuing through Tuesday, Aug. 20, Olive Street will be closed to through traffic between Broadway and Williams streets between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. on normal working days. The Department of Public Works will be working on manholes, catch basins and sidewalk. 

Wednesday, Aug. 20, through Tuesday, Aug. 27, Fawn Street will be closed between Helen and Pine streets to through traffic from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on working days in order for crews to work on manholes and catch basins there.

Dannemora Republicans to hold caucus

DANNEMORA — The Republican Party of the Town of Dannemora is looking for candidates to run for office for the next election.

A caucus will be held at the Town Hall at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, at the Town Hall, 1168 Cook St., Dannemora. Positions open are supervisor, (four-year term); highway superintendent, (four years); two Town Council seats, (four-year terms); town justice (four years and clerk-tax collector (four years).

Road closures planned in Black Brook

BLACK BROOK — From Aug. 12 to 23, several roads will be closed in the Town of Black Brook for a water-main replacement.

They are: Golf Course Road from the intersection with Silver Road to the intersection with McCrea Street; and Palmer Street from North Main to McCrea.

McCrea Street to Golf Course Road will remain open.

Water services may be interrupted during that time. People with questions can call 647-5411.

Peru plans public hearing on Code of Conduct

PERU — Peru School Board will meet at 6 p.m.Tuesday, Aug. 13, in the community room of the Secondary School.

An executive session is expected to be held at the start of the meeting, with the board reconvening in public at about 7 p.m.

A public hearing on the updated Code of Conduct will be held. The board will also discuss a centralized Elementary Administrative Services Plan and its Wellness Policy and Plan.

The meeting is open to the public.

CCRS Board to meet Tuesday

CHAZY — The Chazy Central Rural School Board will hold its regular board meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13. 

Topics of discussion will include substitutes, policies, appointments, the Chazy Athletic Association, the Mentor Program and the capital project.

Chazy town offices to be closed

CHAZY — The Chazy Town Clerk’s office will be closed from Aug. 15 through Aug. 22 for vacation.

Mooers Democrats seek candidates

MOOERS — The Democratic party of the Town of Mooers Democratic Party is lining up candidates for November elections.

The party will hold a caucus for the selection of candidates at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21, at the Mooers Municipal Building, 2508 Route 11.

The following town offices will be up for vote on Nov. 5: town supervisor (two-year term); two Town Council seats (four years); town justice (four years); highway superintendent (four years); and town clerk/tax collector (four years).

All enrolled Democrats are eligible to attend.

SLCS Board to meet at Wild Center

SARANAC LAKE — The Saranac Lake Central School Board will hold a special meeting/retreat from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, at the Wild Center in Tupper Lake.

The agenda includes work on establishing the superintendent-evaluation process, board goal setting, an overview of departments and setting the tax levy.

A lunch break includes time for a walk.

Meetings are open to the public.

Honor Flight adds second plane to flight

PLATTSBURGH — Due to the high demand from area World War II veterans, the North Country Honor Flight will have a second aircraft ready for the Sept.14 flight to Washington, D.C..

Honor Flight flies World War II veterans round-trip to their Memorial in Washington, D.C., at no cost to them.

A second aircraft has been chartered from PenAir for a tandem flight with 68 total seats on two Saab 340 Jet airliners. Each flight will carry 16 World War II veterans, 16 guardians, one medical officer and one flight officer.

Both flights are nearly full for Sept. 14. A third fall flight is scheduled with PenAir for mid-October.

Clinton County Mitigation Plan draft available

PLATTSBURGH — The Clinton County Planning Office has completed the first draft of the five-year update of the Clinton County Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan required by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
