Thomas Barlow remained in critical condition Wednesday afternoon with burns from a fire that ravaged his Route 11 home Tuesday.

The Mooers man was in Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington on Wednesday afternoon, transferred there from CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

He, his wife, Wava, and their two children had escaped the early morning fire, but he had re-entered the home to retrieve his wallet, according to Mooers Volunteer Fire Department Chief Raymond Phair.

The North Country Chapter of the American Red Cross will meet with Mrs. Barlow today to discuss their needs.

The fire, which lasted more than five hours, destroyed their home, and they lost everything.

The investigation into the cause was ongoing, but Phair said Tuesday that the family had lost its heating source in the middle of the night and had used electric heaters instead.
