CHATEAUGAY — John R. Sexton, 18, of Chateaugay, was found dead here, State Police say.

The teen, a senior at Chateaugay Central School, had been missing since Nov. 10.

His body was found near his residence just before 10 a.m. Tuesday, a State Police press release said, where a Franklin County Coroner authorized the body's removal to the University of Vermont Health Network Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone.

No details of how Sexton may have died were released.

An autopsy is scheduled at the University of Vermont Health Network, Champlain Valley Physician’s Hospital in Plattsburgh Wednesday, the release added.

State Police and State Forest Rangers had investigated the disappearance in an over two-week-long search of the area since he was last seen.

In a statement on behalf of the school, Chateaugay Central School District Superintendent Loretta Fowler said that the school's students, staff, administration and board of education were deeply saddened by the news.

"We wish to extend our condolences to all of John's family and friends as they face this immeasurable loss," Fowler said. "John's smile and gentle manner have left an indelible mark in our hearts and minds."

She added that counselors were made available to students today and will continue to be available when they return from Thanksgiving Break.

If any students feel like they need help over the break, she advised that they call the Citizen Advocates 24/7 Crisis Line at 518-483-3261.

Chateaugay native Assemblyman D. Billy Jones (D-Plattsburgh) said that his thoughts and deepest condolences are with Sexton's friends and family.

"Chateaugay is a tight-knit community and we will all mourn this loss together," Jones said.

The death remains under investigation.
