BRIGHTON — A one-car accident here Sept. 10 ended with the driver dead, State Police say.
Massena man Alson J. Novak, 75, was driving north on State Route 30 when his vehicle ran off the east shoulder and into guide wires, a press release said.
Witnesses at the accident allegedly removed Novak from the vehicle and performed CPR until Saranac Lake EMS arrived and took over, but to no avail.
Franklin County Coroner Ronald B. Keough pronounced Novak dead at the scene of the accident at 7:52 p.m., the release said, and removed the body to Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.
A preliminary investigation revealed that Novak may have suffered a medical emergency leading to the crash, according to the release.
An autopsy will be performed at a later date.
Paul Smith's Gabriels Fire Department, Duane Fire Department, and Saranac Lake Emergency Medical Services all assisted at the scene.
