AUSABLE FORKS — Fire destroyed a home at 186 Buck Hill Road here Wednesday night.

Clinton County Dispatch put out a call for the fire at 6:10 p.m., with AuSable Forks Volunteer Fire Department responding.

Mutual aid was requested from Peru Fire Department, with Keeseville Fire Department called to stand by at the AuSable Forks fire station.

The single-story home was “just a ball of flame” when firefighters arrived, AuSable Forks Fire Chief Howard Drake said.

BUILDING SECOND STORY

Drake believed that a man, whose name was not available Wednesday night, was the only resident of the home. He had safely fled the home by the time firefighters arrived, the chief said.

The man had been in the process of building a second story on the home, Drake said.

Flames forced firefighters to fight the blaze from outside the home, with the fire knocked down after about 45 minutes.

“For what we were dealt, it was a pretty good attack and put-out,” Drake said, thanking the mutual aid departments for their assistance.

NO INSURANCE

There were no injuries, he said.

Drake said the resident told him that he did not have insurance and would be spending the night with relatives.

The cause of the fire was still under investigation Wednesday night.

AuSable Forks was back in service at 8:02 p.m.
