PLATTSBURGH -- CVPH Medical Center President Stephens Mundy has personally apologized to the hospital staff for forwarding an offensive e-mail to several other people.

Mundy sent out an organization-wide apology via e-mail on April 25 in which he asked the staff to accept his "sincere apologies" for forwarding to several other people an e-mail he had received that contained offensive material.

"In accordance with hospital policies, the CVPH Board of Directors is reviewing a situation regarding an e-mail forwarded by mistake by Stephens Mundy," CVPH Director of Marketing and Public Relations Michael Hildebran said Tuesday.

"The pictures and captions in the e-mail were meant to be humorous," he added.

"Because this is a personnel matter, we are unable to comment further."

Mundy came to the Medical Center as president in March 2002 to replace long-time president Kevin Carroll, who had retired from the position.

Mundy, who was out of town Tuesday, had been head of St. Joseph's Hospital in Parkersburg, W.Va., for eight years before taking the job in Plattsburgh.
