County Court receives murder case

A Clinton County corrections officer escorts Otis Grenton Jr. from the Plattsburgh City Courthouse at the U.S. Oval and into a Sheriff's Department vehicle Wednesday morning following a court hearing. Grenton’s second-degree murder case in the stabbing death of Richard "Dickey" J. Bombard has been handed over to Clinton County Court.

PLATTSBURGH — Otis Lee Grenton Jr.'s murder case was handed up to Clinton County Court from Plattsburgh City Court this morning.

The 49-year-old Plattsburgh man has been in the Clinton County Jail since late August on no bail, charged with second-degree murder and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, both felonies.

Police say Grenton stabbed his next-door neighbor, Richard "Dickey" J. Bombard, 49, in the chest with a kitchen knife after an argument over cigarettes, food and beer.

Grenton's wife, Lisa, watched as her husband was led into the courtroom in chains by a Clinton County Sheriff's Department correction officer.

She said after the court proceeding that she did not want to comment on his case.

Grenton was mostly expressionless as his attorney, Mark Anderson, requested the case be transferred to the higher court.

Plattsburgh City Court Judge Mark Rogers asked Grenton if he understood his rights before granting Anderson's request.

Assistant District Attorney Domenica Padula represented the District Attorney's Office.
