Mayor Donald Kasprzak

PLATTSBURGH -- City Police are investigating an act of vandalism at Plattsburgh City Hall over the weekend.

Someone etched the letters KNL, about six inches high, in the stone of three of the large pillars that sit outside the main entrance of City Hall.

"This is terrible," an angry Mayor Donald Kasprzak said Monday.

"I came to work this morning and was greeted with this."

Kasprzak said he worked on Saturday and Sunday and did not notice any damage when he left City Hall Sunday afternoon.

Police are investigating and are asking anyone with any information to call them at 563-3411.

"I bet someone out there knows who KNL is," Kasprzak said.

A crew from Public Works tried to sand out the damage but could not remove it completely.

"This is the degradation of a historic building, and it will not stand," the mayor said.
