Run to benefit Alzheimer's Walk Saturday

PLATTSBURGH — The "Run to Remember Doug Hoffman," a 5K fun run/walk to raise funds for the Plattsburgh Alzheimer's Walk, will begin at 9 a.m. Aug. 20 at the Wellness Center at PARC, 295 New York Road.

Registration starts at 8:30 a.m. and costs $15. The first 25 to register will receive T-shirts.

Webinar to examine role of spirituality in mental health

ALBANY — The Mental Health Association in New York State (MHANYS) will be offering a free monthly Webinar series, "The Role of Spirituality in Mental Health," starting from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.

"Over the past decade a growing number of researchers and providers have acknowledged the positive contribution spirituality has for people with mental-health issues," according to a news release. "Consumers, survivors and ex-patients ... will often speak about the ways in which spirituality contributed to their recovery from serious mental illness."

The panel will consist of two people who will talk about the role of spirituality in their recovery. The third panelist is a chaplain from a MHANYS facility who will speak about her experiences working with people in state hospitals.

IC Hope meets Wednesday

PLATTSBURGH — IC Hope, a brain-tumor support group, meets every third Wednesday of the month from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Newman Center, 90 Broad St., Plattsburgh. Couples Fitness Workout offered Wednesday

PLATTSBURGH — Gary and Valerie Liggins of SWATT (Souls Will Ascend Teaming Together for Jesus) Fitness are offering another free Marriage Covenant Renewal and Couples Fitness Workout session from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the YMCA, 17 Oak St.

The couple, international speakers and former celebrity fitness trainers, will "share their experience of leaving Hollywood and traveling the world on faith and favor, discovering God's plan for a holy marriage and how to negotiate your marriage terrain in ever-changing seasons," according to a news release.

Through use of the RWE technique, they are committed to helping clients develop their own vision so they can excel in all areas of their lives: physically, mentally and spiritually.

MALONE — Franklin County Public Health Services will hold an immunization clinic from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, at Families R Us.

A parent with current immunization records must accompany all children, who are eligible for vaccines if health insurance won't cover the cost otherwise. Health Services is unable to bill insurances for adult vaccines, which include Hepatitis A and B, TD, MMR, Menactra and HPV for ages 19 to 26; tDap through age 64; and the shingles vaccine for those older than 60 (when available).
