4-H Club members honored for cleaning up Chateaugay park

Chateaugay Volunteer Fire Department members and kids in the Chateaugay Adventurers 4-H Club pose for a photo at a pizza party and awards ceremony that recognized the young people's efforts to spruce up Firemen's Memorial Park on the corner of Church Street and Franklin Street in Chateaugay.

CHATEAUGAY — Weeding and scrubbing benches were just some of the work done on the Firemen's Memorial Park here by the Chateaugay Adventurer's 4-H Club.

For their efforts, the kids in the club were honored with an awards ceremony and pizza party.

Club leaders Valerie Dalton and Stefanie Wilson proposed the group adopt the park on the corner of Church Street and Franklin Street two years ago after realizing it was in need of regular maintenance.

Since then the kids have weeded, planted flowers, scrubbed benches and cleaned up the area.

The Chateaugay Village Board approved a fence to help define the park's boundaries and that was put up this year.

And the Fire Department, impressed with the hard work the kids put in, threw them the party.
