Going the Distance

Nearly 1,000 athletes depart from the starting line for the 15th-annual Lake Placid Marathon and Half Marathon on Main Street Sunday morning. For the 26-mile contest, Johnny Kemps of Southlake, Texas, took first place for the men with a time of 2:43:2.4 and Brigid Priat of Warick placed first among women at 3:09:00.3. The top local finishers in the marathon were West Chazy resident Jeremy Drowne in fourth place with a time of 2:48:49.3 and Caitrin Herdic Chiantia of Plattsburgh in 13th place at 3:52:21.8. On the 13-mile Half Marathon side, David Bea of Cincinnati placed first overall with a time of 1:12:43.6 for the men and Victoria Lederer of Canton was the first woman to cross the finish line at 1:28:29.8. In the Half Marathon, a pair of Lake Placid residents were the top local finishers, both in second place in their categories — Sean Davis of Lake Placid with a time of 1:20:26.5 and Elizabeth Izzo at 1:29:09.2.
