Christmas Gala coming up in Keeseville

KEESEVILLE — Keeseville United Methodist Church's annual Christmas Gala is set for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 8, at the Keeseville Elks Lodge, 1 Elks Lane.

The event will include vendors with gift baskets, jewelry, unique country and craft items and baked goods. A $6 luncheon will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

 

Christ-centered program aids with hurt, any kind of addiction

 

PLATTSBURGH — Celebrate Recovery, a Christ-centered, 12-step recovery program for anyone struggling with hurt, pain or addiction of any kind, as set its schedule for this month and next at Turnpike Wesleyan Church, 2224 Military Turnpike.

The sessions are free and open to the public with no financial or commitment obligation required. Child care is provided during meetings.

Meetings are at 6 p.m. Mondays, Dec. 10, 17 and 31 (no session on Christmas Eve); and Jan. 7, 14, 21 and 28.

 

Ecumenical Blue Christmas Prayer Service set for Dec. 11

CHAMPLAIN — A Blue Christmas Prayer Service, for those who are enduring pain or loss during this season when many others are celebrating, is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, at Christ & St. John's Episcopal Church, 18 Butternut St.

All are invited to this ecumenical community prayer service.

 

UU Fellowship offers meditation, Book Club, more 

PLATTSBURGH — The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship has numerous events coming up at 4 Palmer St.

All are open to the public and free unless otherwise noted.

Here's the schedule:

“Occasions for Goodness to Arise in the World.” 10 a.m., Sunday, Dec. 9, In the midst of turmoil and a world that may seem unbalanced and burning, it is still possible to cultivate qualities that provide the ground for goodness to arise. Luis Sierra will provide points for reflection and direction.

UUFP Meditation Group. 7 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 9. A 45-minute session, which typically begins with yoga, leading to a meditation period. Attendees are asked to bring their own mats and cushions.

Search for Meaning Adult Discussion Group. 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 11. The group is exploring “Sapiens” by Yuval Noah Harari. Amazon.com calls the No. 1 bestseller  a “groundbreaking narrative of humanity's creation and evolution.

UU Book Club. 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 12. Attendees are invited to bring and discuss a book from the list of Man Booker prizewinners.

Wrapping Party. 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 14. Bring gifts to wrap and paper.

 

Methodist Church to ring with Sweet Sounds of Christmas

PLATTSBURGH — The Plattsburgh United Methodist Church will hold its annual Sweet Sounds of Christmas Concert at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18.

The concert features the musical groups from the church: the chancel choir, hand bell choir and Adirondack Liturgical Dancers.

The After Five Brass Quintet will also perform. Admission is a nonperishable food item(s) or monetary donation for the Interfaith Food Shelf.
