Gospel Choir Goes Motown
PLATTSBURGH — The annual Plattsburgh State Gospel Choir takes a Motown turn this year in its annual Soulful Christmas program Sunday, Dec. 8 at 4 p.m. in the E. Glenn Giltz Auditorium, Hawkins Hall.
In addition to the traditional and urban gospel, contemporary Christian, Caribbean and Afrocentric music, the 60-voice choir will take on several Motown tunes as well, including the Temptations’ version of “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer,” “Silent Night” and “The Christmas Song,” among other Motown classics.
Guests include Kesean Joseph, SUNY Plattsburgh 2017 alum, who will graduate with his masters degree in leadership studies in May from Church of God Theological Seminary; Dr. Learie Nurse, a former member of the choir, the Wickmoore Jazz Trio, the Dance Corps and African Unity.
A special selection will be performed in memory of Dalton Criss, son of artistic director and founder, Dr. Dexter Criss. Dalton, who would have entered SUNY Plattsburgh this fall as a freshman, died as the result of an automobile accident in August. He was a member of the ensemble.
Tickets are $8-$15 advance and $20 at the door. Children 5 and under are free but must share a seat with an adult. MALONE — The Annual Winter Wonderland Craft & Vendor Show to benefit thee Emmaus Soup Kitchen of Malone will be held Saturday, Dec. 14 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Davis Elementary School, 183 Webster St. in Malone. The show attracts loads of talented artisans, crafters and direct sale vendors. Activities include Chinese Auction, 50/50 raffle, delicious lunch sale of homemade soup, chili, hot dogs, and a sweet bake sale. The Emmaus Soup Kitchen uses every dollar raised or donated to scrape together for meal ingredients, paper products and insurance to host our weekly delicious & nutritious Tuesday meal.
