The County of Clinton Industrial Development Agency has elected the following new officers: Charles Gijanto of Morrisonville, chairperson; Dennis Doyle of Plattsburgh, vice chairperson; Michael Zurlo of Morrisonville, secretary; Thomas Millea of Peru, treasurer.

The Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department Rescue Squad recently held their annual meeting and elected the following officers for the upcoming 2007/2008 year: Vernon James, rescue chief, for a third term; Julie Harjung, rescue captain; Leigh Anne Olson, first lieutenant of rescue; Daemon Jacobs, second lieutenant of rescue. The rescue squad ended a busy 2006/2007 year with a total of 982 calls. The average length of each call was 58 minutes. Of the 982 calls: 93 were for motor vehicle accidents, 65 were for mutual aid to other agencies, six were for water related rescues and 25 were for stand-by coverage for things like fireworks and various sporting events.

A prominent Capitol Hill newspaper has named a Plattsburgh native as one of Washington's top trade association lobbyists for the third year in a row.

The Hill newspaper on May 3 included National Retail Federation senior vice president for government relations Steve Pfister among a select group of trade association advocates considered to be "Washington's top lobbyists" and "the best in the business for American's business sectors."

The Peru Central High School and Plattsburgh State graduate was ranked along with former members of Congress, a former Cabinet secretary, a former governor and other lobbyists from a variety of prominent business groups that included the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the National Federation of Independent Businesses, the National Association of Manufacturers and the Business Roundtable.

Pfister is a 1975 graduate of Peru Central High School and graduated from Plattsburgh State with a bachelor's degree in political science in 1980. He is the son of Carol Pfister of Plattsburgh.

Four faculty and one staff member at Plattsburgh State have been selected to receive the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence.

Dr. Robert Christopherson, professor of economics and finance, and JoEllen Miano, associate professor of music, will receive the Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching.

Dr. Timothy Mihuc, associate professor of earth and environmental science, is the recipient of the Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Scholarship and Creative Activity.

Dr. Raymond Guydosh, associate professor of hotel, restaurant and tourism management, is the recipient of the Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Faculty Service.

Rose Anderson, director of alumni affairs and executive director of the Plattsburgh Alumni Association, is the recipient of the Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Professional Service.

The recipients will be honored during the President's Opening Day Welcome prior to the start of the fall semester in late August.
