A Dinner to Remember

New York State Assemblyman Dan Stec (R,C,I-Queensbury) talks with (foreground right) Lew “Bud” Egglefield, 90, a Korean War Veteran, and 99 year-old Alfred “Alfie” Kurtz, a World War II Veteran, during a recent dinner gathering at the Elizabethtown Social Center. Also seated at the table (from left) are veterans Paul Buehler, Bob Rice and Jim Beaton. Veterans from the communities of Elizabethtown, Lewis, Westport and New Russia gathered at the center to enjoy a meal cooked and served by the Center’s teen group. Stec, himself a veteran, as are many of his family members, joined the group. “You took whatever came your way,” said Stec. “Some paid the ultimate price. Kids read about this in textbooks, but an event like this makes it real. Veterans are not just concepts, but real people, and it’s great to have events like this to say, ‘Thank you’.”
