MERRILL €" Mary Yanulavich Gonyea, 89, of Merrill, passed away Saturday, May 5, 2007, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh after a long illness.

She was born on April 17, 1918, in Lyon Mountain, the daughter of Frank and Louise (Shusda) Yanulavich.

Mary attended Lyon Mountain High School. She completed a dental school correspondence course and worked for Dr. Mahoney in Chateaugay.

She held two positions as a housekeeper; one was in Harlem Valley State Hospital in Wingdale, N.Y., for the superintendent, and the other was for the parish of St. Lawrence Church in Louisville, N.Y. She worked in South Bend, Ind., in shirt manufacturing. Mary enjoyed cooking and shared that joy with many at Camp Chateaugay in Merrill. Her hobbies were gardening and fishing.

She was a communicant of St. Bernard's Church in Lyon Mountain and a member of Our Lady of Snow Catholic Daughters in Lyon Mountain.

Mary married Henry Gonyea on May 6, 1967, at St. Bernard's Church and moved to Merrill.

Survivors include two stepdaughters, Joan Merrill and her husband, Ronald, of Plattsburgh, and Margaret Talford and her husband, Fred, of Cadyville; two grandchildren, Patricia Peerman of Evansville, Ind., and Michele Merrill of Plattsburgh; and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers, Alex Yanulavich and John Yanulavich, both of Lyon Mountain; and several nieces and nephews.

Mary was predeceased by her husband, Henry, on Dec. 30, 1986. She was also predeceased by two brothers, Frank and Ignatius Yanulavich, and one sister, Geneva McCloud.

Calling hours will be held today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Lyon Mountain Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in St, Bernard's Church.

Burial will be on Wednesday in the parish cemetery.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Northeastern New York.

The R. W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh is in charge of arrangements.
