PLATTSBURGH — Two Peru residents have incurred more burglary charges following further investigation into thefts in Ellenburg last month.
Tara L. Reynolds, 34, and Brandon S. Duby, 22, were first charged with burglarizing a residence on Plank Road in the Town of Ellenburg on Sept. 19, State Police said in a news release.
The caretaker of the home saw an unfamiliar car pull into the driveway and called police, authorities told the Press-Republican soon after their arrest.
Police said they later obtained a warrant to search the pair’s vehicle and residence and found many pilfered items, including a .50-caliber black-powder long gun.
The gun was stolen from the Wal-Mart in Malone, police said.
In addition to their initial charge for the Plank Road incident, Reynolds and Duby were each charged with two counts of second-degree burglary and two counts of third-degree burglary, both felonies.
In the four burglaries, police said, Reynolds and Duby stole jewelry from a residence on Recore Road in the Town of Altona, clothing and personal effects from a home on Henry Senior Drive in the Town of Peru, peanut brittle from a business on Military Turnpike in the Town of Plattsburgh and cigars from a business on Martina Circle in the Town of Plattsburgh.
The pair were also charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a misdemeanor.
Reynolds incurred a charge of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor, because of a prior felony conviction, police said.
The two were arraigned in Peru Town Court and sent to Clinton County Jail without bail.
