Fair talent shaping up

MALONE — The buzz surrounding the 163rd edition of the Franklin County Fair is already starting.

Contracts for the big-name entertainers expected to appear at this year’s fair have not been signed yet, but the announcement should come within the next two weeks, said Pat Maneely, secretary of the Franklin County Agricultural Society Board of Directors.

She recently returned from the annual meeting of the New York State Fair Association and said the local fair board has signed its portion of the contracts, “but the talent hasn’t gotten the contracts back to us.”

Maneely said she expects the paperwork to be completed by early February.

The fair will be held Aug. 3 through 11 at the Franklin County Fairgrounds in the Village of Malone.

Tickets for the Coca-Cola Grandstand concerts will go on sale the first week in June.

Concerts and special events will be held the final three days, with a variety of popular activities spread across the first six days of the fair.

According to the fair board’s Facebook page, the qualifying round of the Demolition Derby will be Saturday, Aug. 3, followed by the tractor and modified-truck pull on Sunday, Aug. 4.

The finals of the Demolition Derby are set for Monday, Aug. 5, and the antique tractor and street-legal truck pull are set for Tuesday, Aug. 6, at the grandstand.

The final two events already on the entertainment schedule are back again in 2013.

The Hell Drivers will be tearing up the track at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 7, and local entertainment will be featured when the Greater Malone YMCA’s Franklin County Has Talent Show is held Thursday, Aug. 8.
