Gillette Bartlett

TICONDEROGA — Gillette Clayton Bartlett, 75, of Ticonderoga, went into the arms of the Lord peacefully on Monday, May 20, 2013. Born in Hague, New York, February 14, 1938, he was the son of the late Clayton and Margaret (Penders) Bartlett.

Gillette graduated from Hague Central School in 1957 and joined the Air Force shortly after. He served in the Pacific in the 5th Air Force, also serving in Laos.

He married Patricia Frances Carney on June 1, 1963, in Hague. He and Patty had eight children.

Upon his return from the Air Force, he was employed for 38 years at International Paper Company. Many of those years, he was a Union Officer of Pulp & Sulfite Local # 5, and served several terms as Union President.

After his retirement from International Paper Company, he worked at the Ticonderoga Country Club. He was an avid sportsman and loved fishing the numerous ponds. He loved the Adirondacks and especially his time at Bloomer Valley Hunting Club. He was very proud of his yearly garden. He was known by many for his wit and humor. He will be sadly missed by many, especially his family.

Gillette is survived by his wife, Patricia (Carney) Bartlett; five daughters, Beth Rowe, Colleen Thompson (Albert), Christine Green (Dave), Tricia Fenlon and Melissa Bartlett; three sons, Shannon Bartlett (Julie), Kevin Bartlett (Alison), and Michael Bartlett; five brothers, Larry, David, Leigh, Clayton and Richard Bartlett; seven sisters, Cindy Porter, Lona Jennings, Marilla Washburn, Peggy Jean Prevost, Ann Hutchins, Lois Kelley and Michelle Kelley; his sister-in-law, Pam Bresette (Bud); 18 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was pre-deceased by his parents, his father and mother-in-law, Frank and Rosemary Carney; his brothers, John and Dennis Bartlett; his sister, Patricia Foster; his son-in-law, James Rowe; and sister-in-law, Peggy (Harold) Chamberlain.

Relatives and friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 23, at Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home, 11 Algonkin St., Ticonderoga.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 24, at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Ticonderoga. The Rev. Kevin D. McEwan, Pastor, will officiate. The Rite of Committal will take place at the convenience of the family.
