CHAMPLAIN — Howard James Thompson, 81, of Route 9, Champlain, died Thursday, May 16, 2013, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.
He was born in Brooklyn on April 3, 1932, son of the late Harry and Jenny (Hanson) Thompson.
He retired after 22 years in the United States Air Force, 18 years with GSA.
He is survived by his children, Bob (Jeanette) LaBarr of Cape Coral, Fla., Dick LaBarr of Champlain, Bonnie Cromwell of Troy, Ohio, Terry LaBarr of Lexington, N.C., Joe (Collette) LaBarr of Plattsburgh, Tim (Barbara) LaBarr of Rome, N.Y. and Mary Ann (Bryan) Downes of Newman Lake, Wash. He is also survived by several grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Leona (Latourelle); a daughter, Barbara Lawson; and a son, Tom LaBarr.
Calling hours were held from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday afternoon at M.B. Clark Funeral Home, 196 Elm Street, Champlain, NY
A Mass of Christian burial was at 11 a.m., Monday, May 20 at St. Joseph's Church, Mason Road, Coopersville, with Rev. Clyde A. Lewis, pastor, celebrant of the mass. Interment followed in the parish cemetery. Pallbearers were Joseph LaBarr, Richard LaBarr, Terry LaBarr, Robert LaBarr, Brian Downes and Michael Bush.
