ELCS Board to discuss contract

ELIZABETHTOWN — The Elizabethtown-Lewis Central School Board will hold a special meeting at 7 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, in the conference room to vote on a CVES Board member.

Another special session is set for 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, also in the conference room, where it is anticipated the board will convene in executive session to discuss contract negotiations.

School board meetings are open to the public.

Plattsburgh City School Board to meet Thursday

PLATTSBURGH — The Plattsburgh City School Board will meet on Thursday, Jan. 23 at the Duken School Building.

If an executive session is needed, it will be held at 6 p.m. Public session, set to resume at 7 p.m., will include a presentation of the Five-Year Buildings Condition Survey, discussion on terms of office, the  Military Veterans Exemption Bill and action on miscellaneous personnel and business items.

Saranac High School to host meeting for parents

SARANAC — Saranac High School will hold a forum for parents from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27, in the Large Group Instruction Room. 

Information will be provided regarding curriculum changes, including Common Core English language arts and math, and college/career readiness targets. Also, input will be sought from parents on issues important to the academic program, school/parent communication and/or school climate. 

Faculty members will take part in the discussion, as will High School Principal Jonathan Parks, Assistant Principal Michael White and Director of Curriculum Connie Garman.

Refreshments and snacks will be provided.

JCEO recruiting for Head Start

PLATTSBURGH — The JCEO Head Start Program is accepting referrals and taking applications for the 2014-2015 school year.

Children who will be three or four on or before Dec. 1 who may also meet income guidelines, or may have a special need or disability are eligible.
