Beverly Brownell

TUPPER LAKE — On Friday, April 19, 2013, the Lord unexpectedly called home his special angel.

Beverly P. Brownell, 74, was born in Plattsburgh, N.Y., March 17, 1939, the daughter of Oscar and Evelyn (Herling) Loso.

She graduated from Plattsburgh State with a bachelor's degree in home economics in 1959 and later earned a master's degree in special education.

Beverly was employed by the State of New York at Sunmount Developmental Center for 26 years, working first as a special education teacher, then in administration.

Beverly enjoyed being involved in community activities and was a member of many clubs and organizations. She held several offices in Business and Professional Women (BPW) and the Chamber of Commerce, participated in numerous Chamber of Commerce events promoting tourism and economic growth for the village, and volunteered at the Wild Center. She was also a member of Eastern Star and Red Hats. Beverly enjoyed the friendship of exercise with her friends and instructors at the Sunmount pool.

She loved visiting with friends and family and maintained a close relationship with the Lalama family of Ecuador. Oscar Lalama lived with the Brownell family as an AFS foreign exchange student in 1978-1979, and the two families have remained close ever since, often visiting each other homes. Over the years, Beverly developed a large network of friends, who will miss her warm, welcoming personality, infectious laughter, and lively sense of humor. She hosted countless koffee klatches where she and her friends shared stories and news of the day, comforting each other in trying times she shared her own life experiences, which enriched the lives of those around her.

Beverly was predeceased by the love of her life, Dr. Hans Corneille, with whom she shared a devoted and loving relationship for many years, an example of true love and commitment.

Beverly is survived by her two sons, Stephen Brownell of Houston, Texas, and Dan Brownell of Waupaca, Wisc.; and her grandchildren, Catherine and Clare Brownell of Potsdam, N.Y., and Elizabeth and Joshua Brownell of Waupaca. She also is survived by her brother, William Loso of Binghamton, N.Y.; nephew, Tim Loso of Chenango Falls, N.Y.; niece, Caroline (Loso) Norris of Endicott, N.Y.; cousins, David Reeves of Peru, N.Y., and Rick Mooney of Liverpool, N.Y.; brother-in-law, Joe Brownell of Cortland, N.Y.; and Joe Brownell's children, Greg Brownell of Glens Falls, N.Y., Linda Brownell of Portage, Ohio, and Sharon (Brownell) Redfield of Fredonia, N.Y. Finally, Beverly is survived also by her adopted Ecuadorean son, Oscar, his wife Kerly, and granddaughters, Danielle and Beverly Lalama, of Guayaquil, Ecuador.

Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 26, at Stuart Fortune Keough Funeral Home, 24 Cliff Avenue, Tupper Lake, New York.
