Summer Movie Express returns

---- — PLATTSBURGH — A discount movie program designed for family summer fun will return to Champlain Centre starting June 25.

Regal Champlain Centre Stadium 8 theater will offer two movies choices at 10 a.m. each Tuesday and Wednesday for nine weeks at a cost of just $1 per person.

All movies are rated G or PG, intended to provide entertainment for the whole family. 

Regal Entertainment Group Senior Vice President Ted Cooper said moviegoers of all ages can enjoy a wide variety of choices, from animated features to live-action stories about nature.

“It’s great to see all of the kids and parents who make good use of this summertime fun,” he said in a news release.

Tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

A portion of the proceeds will go to the Will Rogers Institute, which promotes and engages in medical research pertaining to cardiopulmonary diseases, educates the public on health and fitness issues and provides neonatal ventilators to hospitals in need.

Regal started the program in 1991. With the recent acquisition of the Great Escape and Hollywood Theater chains, the series will be offered at more than 300 theaters across the country.

“We are excited to launch Summer Movie Express in more markets and at more theaters this year as we premiere the program at recently acquired Great Escape and Hollywood Theaters,” Regal Entertainment Group Senior Vice President of Theatre Operations Neal Pinsker said.

The movie choices are:

June 25 and 26: “The Three Stooges” (PG) and “Ice Age: Continental Drift” (PG).

July 2 and 3: “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days” (PG) and “Parental Guidance” (PG).

July 9 and 10: “Mr. Poppers’ Penguins” (PG) and “Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked” (G).

July 16 and 17: “Monte Carlo” (PG) and “Rio” (G).

July 23 and 24: “Coraline” (PG) and “Paranorman” (PG).

July 30 and 31: “Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax” (PG) and “Big Miracle” (PG).

Aug. 6 and 7: “Yogi Bear” (PG) and “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island” (PG).

Aug. 13 and 14: “Racing Stripes” (PG) and “Happy Feet Two” (PG).

Aug. 20 and 21: “African Cats” (G) and “Chimpanzee” (G).
