NORTH COUNTRY 52,
WATERTOWN — A strong defensive effort and balanced scoring helped the Saints knock off the Cannoneers in women’s college basketball.
Emily Lapage scored 12 points and 10 rebounds to lead the way for North Country (3-5), which led by just one at the half 25-24. Stephanie Demarais, Haylea Gary and Shelby Gausby each tossed in 10 points for the Saints. Kelly Kezar added eight points and 10 rebounds.
“We controlled the boards (Tuesday) and we were able to hold them to one shot, which was key for us,” North Country coach Jerrad Dumont said. “They got out in transition on us to start the game and scored 10 points, but we held them in half-court basketball … our 2-3 zone was good and we played good team defense.”
Jasmine Canady and Tapulei Vaveao each scored 12 points to lead the way for Jefferson. Morgan Kiernan chipped in with 10 points.
“We were able to share the ball a lot on offense,” Dumont said. “And, we were able to get to the rim.”
The Saints host Adirondack Community College on Friday at 5 p.m.
