Dannemora Village Office closed Friday

DANNEMORA — The Village of Dannemora Office will be closed on Friday.

It will reopen on Monday, Dec. 2.


Law enforcement out watching for drunken driving

PLATTSBURGH — Starting today, state and local law enforcement agencies are out in force, utilizing sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols to deter drunk driving over the holiday. 

Motorists are reminded that driving with a blood alcohol content of 0.08 or higher will put them over the limit and if they don’t drive sober, they will get pulled over. 

Law enforcement agencies are also be cracking down on drivers who are impaired by drugs, both illegal and prescription. 

And State Police will also focus on use of electronic devices by motorists behind the wheel, with its “Operation Hang Up” initiative, which utilizes Concealed Identity Traffic Enforcement (CITE) patrol vehicles to locate drivers talking or texting on cellphones.

In 2012, according to DMV statistics, there were 8,633 alcohol-related crashes in New York state reported by police, resulting in 358 people killed and 6,303 injured. 

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, alcohol-impaired-driving fatalities increased nationwide by 4.6 percent in 2012, accounting for 31 percent of overall fatalities.


Saranac Central Board sets new meeting date

SARANAC — The Saranac Central School Board meeting set for Dec. 2 has been canceled.

The next session is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 16, in the District Office.

Meetings are open to the public.


Meeting on salt contamination set

DANNEMORA — An informational meeting to update Chazy Lake residents on the well-water salt-contamination issue there will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2, in the Dannemora Town Hall, 1168 Cook St.

The meeting is open to the public but would be of interest especially to all residents of Chazy Lake who live within the proposed Water District boundaries.
