SARANAC LAKE — Saranac Lake hasn’t been able to get the big hits in timely situations of late.

It looked like that was going to be the case again Tuesday.

But, the Red Storm broke out of their slump in the sixth inning to capture an 8-5 victory over Lake Placid in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference baseball.

“It was timely hitting for us,” Saranac Lake coach Bryan Munn said. “Guys got on base we got hits when we needed them.

“It has been a good 12 innings of not hitting the ball well, like we had all year. In the sixth inning we got guys on and the hits started coming.”

The Blue Bombers had a strong sixth inning as well.

Tied at two heading into the inning, Lake Placid plated three.

“They started with a triple, which was followed with a single to get a quick run,” Munn said. “They had a couple more singles and RBI; they earned their runs in that inning.”

Trailing 5-2, the Red Storm bats finally came alive.

“I was beginning to get nervous,” Munn said. “But, we started the inning with a double, then got hit by a pinch and they had an error. Then we finally got a couple big hits with runners in scoring position.”

Brad Shumway led the charge with a 3-for-4 performance. Logan Wood and Dylan Gunther each cracked a double. Trent Fitzgerald captured the win.

Kamm Cassidy paced the Blue Bombers with three hits. Alex Brandes added two hits, while Conor Preston finished with a triple.
