COLCHESTER, Vt. — Ethan King belted a two-run home run before striking out five batters in the final three innings to help the Adams Glass Senior Babe Ruth team defeat Lyndon, 3-2.
“We got some good pitching from our younger guys,” Adams Glass head coach John Demarais said. “We were able to put up some runs to support them. It’s been tough to find any rhythm with all of the rainouts. (Tuesday), we were able to grind out a win behind a couple of key hits when we needed them.”
Northeastern Clinton’s Kevin Sousa opened scoring in the first frame, leading off the first inning with a single. After stealing two bases, Sousa reached home plate on a wild pitch, helping Adams Glass take a 1-0 lead.
Lyndon tied the game in the top of the second, but Adams Glass was quick to respond.
With the first two batters of the second inning retired via strikeout, Northeastern Clinton’s Alex Lamberton reached base on an error. King, who attends Northern Adirondack, stepped to the plate, tagging a pitch over the right-field fence.
“Their pitching was very good, and it kept us off-balance,” Adams Glass assistant coach Jim Reid said. “Ethan King made solid bat-to-ball contact, and it was a clutch hit to give us the lead for keeps.”
Alden Kerr, King’s high school teammate, pitched the first four innings of the ballgame and was credited with the win on the mound. King snagged the save.
Lyndon’s Keith Terry suffered the loss.
Adams Glass managed three runs on two hits and one error, while Lyndon accumulated two runs on two hits and one error.
With the win, Adams Glass improved to 7-6-1 overall and 2-1-1 in Vermont League play.
The Peru-based team will play in Middlebury on Thursday.
