PLATTSBURGH — Kathleen Ellen "Kathy" Holmes, 62, of Chasands Drive, Plattsburgh, died Saturday, May 24, 2014 at her home under the loving care of her family and Hospice of the North Country.
She was born in Ticonderoga, March 15, 1952, the daughter of the late Ret. MSgt. Hayden P. and Mary A. (Bush) Wallace. Kathleen attended school in Ticonderoga. For many years she worked at Arpack Plastics, Clinton County Nursing Home, Print Pad LTD, and until her illness she greatly enjoyed working for her daughter, Mary Hughes, at "Friend in Me" Daycare, where she touched the lives of many families and children enrolled during her years of work.
For many years Kathleen was an avid bowler at Plattsburgh Lanes and North Bowl Lanes. She enjoyed attending bingo, crocheting, cooking, camping with her family, visiting friends, telling stories to her grandchildren, listening to Irish music, feeding the birds, and hitting the slot machines. She especially enjoyed watching her grandchildren grow, and was blessed with one great-grandson. Kathleen had a way with her beloved smile and humor to bring sunlight into a darkened room and to lift one's spirit without knowing. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.
She leaves, but not forever, her companion of 34 years, Douglas "Max" Drennan of Plattsburgh; sister, Mary Wallace of Ticonderoga; brother, Phillip Wallace of Plattsburgh; son, Paul Garcia of Plattsburgh and his two children, Paula and Stephan; son, Michael Garcia of Plattsburgh and his son, Michael Garcia, and his son, Kathy's beloved great-grandson, Brayden; daughter, Mary Hughes and husband Rob Hughes of Plattsburgh and their four children, Kyle, Lukas, Mallory, and Angelea; many nieces and nephews whom she adored; and many other family and friends who all love and miss her dearly.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 7 pm Thursday, June 5, 2014 at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. A memorial service will follow at 7 pm at the Hamilton Funeral chapel. Kathleen enjoyed barbeques with family and friends. Therefore, rain or shine, her family will be hosting a reception in her memory, Saturday, June 7, 2014 at 2 pm at her daughter's residence, 1 Diana Way, Plattsburgh, NY, 12901.
