Gasoline prices expected to drop in coming weeks
NEW YORK — Average retail gasoline prices in New York fell 1.7 cents per gallon over the course of last week, averaging $3.87 a gallon Sunday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 6,118 gas outlets in New York.
This compares with the national average that dropped 1.8 cents per gallon in that period to $3.62 a gallon, according to GasBuddy.com.
Including the change in gas prices in New York last week, prices Sunday were 17.8 cents per gallon higher than the same day one year ago and are 10.4 cents per gallon higher than a month ago.
The national average has increased 2.9 cents per gallon during the last month and stands 4.9 cents per gallon higher than this day one year ago.
"Pump prices have continued to recede across much of the country, although decreases have been small so far," GasBuddy.com Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan said in a news release.
"The national average peaked in the closing days of April and has moved down a few cents per gallon, and we'll likely continue to see prices dropping as we approach Memorial Day."
Coast Guard Auxiliary giving free boat inspections
PLATTSBURGH — Flotilla 15-8 Coast Guard Auxiliary will offer free boat inspections and safety information from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 17.
Information tables will be set up in the city parking lot near the Plattsburgh City Boat Launch Site.
The group will provide free vessel exams to all boaters who bring their watercraft to that location.
The setup allows boats to be trailered right up to the location for a quick and easy inspection.
The inspection is entirely advisory and informational. If everything on the boat is up to Coast Guard standards, the auxiliary will place a free inspection sticker on the boat.
