CHATEAUGAY — Rescuers rushed to Chateaugay Lake on Tuesday night after a report of a person in distress in the water.

The scanner call went out at about 7:20 p.m.

Marine and technical-rescue crews were called from several departments.

Clinton County Dispatch reported at about 8 p.m. that the individual was picked up by boat and brought to shore.

PLATTSBURGH — The Plattsburgh City Fire Department was dispatched to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Tuesday evening.

At about 6:25 p.m., about a dozen people evacuated the church after smelling propane inside the building on 26 Dennis Ave., according to Lieutenant Scott Barshow.

The church’s propane tank was filled Tuesday but the warm weather caused the gas to expand, opening the vent device to let off pressure, Barshow said.

“We ventilated the building so that the odor was removed and (the evacuees) went back inside,” he said.

There were no resulting injuries.

PLATTSBURGH — A Plattsburgh man was charged with felony criminal mischief Monday.

Corey Fortin, 30, allegedly intentionally smashed his head into a glass window at a vacant building on Clinton Street adjacent to Peabody’s, according to Plattsburgh City Police.

Fortin was intoxicated and uncooperative, police said.

He was transported to CVPH Medical Center and once released from the hospital he was arrested and charged with third-degree criminal mischief, a felony, and was arraigned that day.

PLATTSBURGH — A Schuyler Falls woman was charged with felony drunken driving June 22.

Cathy Caron, 44, was allegedly observed stopping in the middle of an intersection at a red light on Boynton Avenue, according to Plattsburgh City Police.

The officer on patrol initiated a traffic stop and an investigation led to field sobriety tests, police said.

Caron was subsequently arrested and charged with felony DWI, with a prior offense in the past 10 years. She was also ticketed for passing a red traffic signal and failure to signal a turn. She was released on $496 cash bail, to appear in city court July 3.

PLATTSBURGH — A Plattsburgh man was charged with two felonies June 18.

David Parent, 25, was allegedly observed by a police officer entering a vehicle. He subsequently fled from the scene, according to Plattsburgh City Police.

After being obtained and arrested, Parent allegedly confessed to two other larcenies. In the first, a purse with a credit card was stolen from a vehicle on Pine Street and in the second, a wallet with cash, a credit card, a social security card, and a driver’s license was stolen from a car parked on U.S. Avenue, police said.

He was charged with two counts of fourth-degree grand larceny, both felonies. He was also charged with resisting arrest and attempted petit larceny, both misdemeanors.

No further information was available.

PLATTSBURGH — A Plattsburgh man was charged with felony possession of a weapon June 18.

Police officers responded to 5062 South Catherine Street for the report of an altercation. They were also alerted that an involved male fled the scene, according to Plattsburgh City Police.

After investigation, police found no indication of an altercation but stopped Martin Murchison, 24, who had fled the area to Pine Street, police said.

Murchison was found to be in possession of a switch-blade knife with a conviction of a crime in his criminal history, police said.

He was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a felony, and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation.
