Gertrude A. Deso

TICONDEROGA — Gertrude A. Deso, 82, of Ticonderoga, beloved wife and mother, passed away on Sunday evening, August 11, 2013 at home, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. She was born on June 30, 1931 in Willsboro, NY, the youngest child of the late George Elmer and Rose (English) Demar.

She was educated in Essex Schools and graduated in 1949. She worked for a time in the local bank, before leaving to devote herself to her family as a housewife and mother. She married Dean F. Deso on May 22, 1954 in Essex, N.Y. They recently celebrated their 59th anniversary.

In addition to her husband, Dean, she leaves her three children, Beverly A. Deso of Saranac Lake, William (Bill) Deso of Bowie, Md., and Mary Anne Deso of Pittsfield, Mass. She also leaves her sister, Jane Perry of Whallonsburg, and several nieces, nephews, great-grand nieces and nephews, and several cousins.

She was pre-deceased by her parents, as well as her brothers and sisters, Marguerite DiClemente, Dolora Angels, Neil Demar and Raymond Demar.

Mrs. Deso enjoyed playing cards and games with her family, bingo, jumble puzzles and spending time with her family.

She was a communicant of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Ticonderoga, where she and her husband, enjoyed attending daily Mass together.

Gertrude was a wonderful wife and mother, who was always there for her family. She was always ready to listen and offer advice and support.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 16, at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Ticonderoga. The Rev. Kevin D. McEwan, Pastor, will officiate. The Rite of Committal will follow at the family plot of St. Mary's Parish Cemetery of Ticonderoga.

The family would like to give thanks to her caregivers from High Peaks Hospice and North Country Home Services, without whom, they would not have been able to care for her at home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mrs. Deso's memory may be made to St. Mary's School, 64 Amherst Avenue, Ticonderoga, NY, 12883 or High Peaks Hospice, 19 Church Street, Saranac Lake, NY, 12983.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home of Ticonderoga.
