---- — JAY — Joseph T. Madden 87, passed away on September 23, 2013 at Adirondack Medical Center, Saranac Lake. Joe was born on August 22, 1926, in Plattsburgh, N.Y., the son of James and Winifred (Dwyer) Madden. He faced challenges being born with cerebral palsy, but eventually learned to walk, ride a bike, drive a car and all things that young boys liked to do.

Joe attended Holy Name grade School and Au Sable Forks High School. During his teenage years he helped his father in the family business, Maddens Country Store. After his fathers death Joe, his mother Winifred and Aunt Margaret Madden ran the business.

In 1957, Joe met the love of his life Dorothy and soon married her. They were blessed with four children Mary Ellen, Eileen, Ann and James; six grandchildren, Anthony, Nicholas, Alexander, Vincent, Molly and J. J.; and one great- grandchild, Felix.

Joe loved his community, church and his family. Everyone will remember his quick wit and one liners. He was often called the unofficial mayor of Jay he kept a close eye on the village green, often contributing monetarily to make the park presentable. His customers will remember all the times he helped them when they were in dire need.

At Joes request there will be no calling hours. A funeral mass will be celebrated at Holy Name Church at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28. Burial will follow in St. Agne's Cemetery in Lake Placid, N.Y.
