PLATTSBURGH — The Clinton Community College men’s basketball team made a strong statement Tuesday with a 115-74 victory over Word of Life.
The Cougars had 11 players get into the game and all 11 finished with at least four points in the contest.
“We didn’t start very well,” Clinton coach Kevin Daugherty said. “We wanted to pressure and get after them full court, but they handled the ball well early against and we gave up some early layups.
“We were down 16-5 to begin the game.”
The Cougars (9-6), though, were able to rally to take a 50-35 lead at the conclusion of the first half, and it would only get better from there.
“We made some adjustments at halftime with our pressure,” Daugherty said. “Every kid that played played extremely well in the second half. They played hard and very well in the second half.
“Except Bayron (Carter), who is out with an injury, everyone got in and played well.”
Mykell Crecko had a strong game inside for Clinton with 22 points and 13 rebounds. Stefan Radan added 19 points, eight rebounds and five steals, while Kyle LaPoint finished with 12 points, six rebounds and six assists.
Mike Campbell tallied 13 points, while Chris Miller and Mario Chabau each contributed nine points for the Cougars. Matt Spencer tossed in eight points and pulled down eight rebounds.
“Radan played very hard and ran very hard,” Daugherty said. “LaPoint had his best overall game as a Cougar,”
Luke Rettstadt led Word of Life with 20 points. Brooks Weigant added 13 points, while Jordan Davoll tallied 10.
Clinton hits the road this weekend with a 5 p.m. contest at Corning on Saturday and a 2 p.m. game at Finger Lakes Sunday.
