Saranac defeats NAC in CVAC volleyball

SARANAC — The Saranac volleyball team was sharp from start-to-finish Tuesday.

The Chiefs (5-5) won three consecutive sets — 25-19, 25-23 and 25-9 — in their three-game defeat of Northern Adirondack in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference volleyball.

Anna Dorrance paced Saranac with seven points on three aces, 15 assists and two kills. Morgan Juneau added 13 points, four aces and two kills in the win.

MacKenzie Fountain and Zoey Varin led the Bobcats (5-5). Fountain totaled nine assists, three digs and two points. Varin registered nine kills, three points and two digs.

Beekmantown 3, Plattsburgh High 0

BEEKMANTOWN — Jordynne Ales and Michaela Lafountain each paced the Eagles (9-1) in their three-game sweep of the Hornets (7-3).

Beekmantown won its games 25-6, 25-10 and 25-11.

Ales, a libero, registered 15 points, eight aces and 21 digs, while Lafountain added seven points, one ace, two blocks, 30 assists, two kills and four digs.

“(Tuesday) was an excellent effort by all 14 Beekmantown players,” Eagles coach Shana Hileman said. “Each player received court time and made great plays. Ales, (Evelyn) Vicencio and (Mikaela) Frechette had a spectacular defensive and serve-receive game, allowing (Shannon) Ryan, (Grace) Kelly and Frechette to lead the team (offensively) in kills.”

Kianna Dragoon led Plattsburgh High with six assists and two kills. Amanda McMahon totaled one kill and four digs.

LAKE PLACID — After going 1-27 in their first 28 sets, Brenna Garrett paced the Blue Bombers (1-9) in a 3-0 win over the Red Storm (1-8).

Garrett totaled 13 points on four aces, eight kills and four assists. Taylor Maiorca added seven points, three aces, nine assists and two kills in the team’s first win of 2013.

Saranac Lake was led by Katie Burgess’ five points, two aces, three kills and 10 digs.

PERU — Ellen Reid was the standout performer in the Cougars’ (6-4) 3-1 win over the Indians (3-6).

Reid totaled 13 points on four aces, six kills, one block, one dig and three assists. Dakota Morrison put up 13 points, two aces, three kills, and five digs.

Lea Perry paced Peru with five points, one ace, four kills, five digs and seven assists. Lexi Miner added nine points, three aces, and two kills.
